Your CPA Is Keeping You Broke
March 15th.
Phone rings.
"Patrick, I need help. My CPA just hit me with a six-figure tax bill I wasn't expecting."
"And charged me five figures to deliver the bad news."
Nobody likes surprises.
Especially expensive ones that hit twice.
But here's what really gets me.
This contractor is doing $10M in revenue.
Taking home the same $250K he was making at $5M.
Working the same 60-hour weeks.
Dealing with the same cash flow stress every month.

Here's the problem.
CPAs are critical.
But they're focused on taxes and compliance.
Not cash flow.
You didn't get into business to be a CFO or an accountant.
You can pay people for reports, taxes, and compliance.
But what you need is abundant cash flow and capital to fuel your fast-growing contracting business.
Most CPAs only meet with their clients after the year is over.
They present them with a big tax bill.
Or they get a frantic call from the owner in late December.
When it's too late to implement any significant tax savings.
Who cares what the profit says on paper?
It's what's in the bank account that matters.
How much cash flow is available to owners after debt, taxes, and reinvestment?
That should be 7-figures for any contractor over $10M in revenue.
But there's another problem.
The field and finance are intrinsically related.
And that's where things often break down.
It's a battle played by players who are supposed to be on the same team.
Finance complains that the field is slow to provide documentation.
The field complains that the office has no idea how things actually get built.
Owners don't get excited about cash flow.
They get excited about cash.
What makes cash disappear?
Poor field management and a lack of financial clarity around the numbers.
What makes cash appear?
Just the opposite.
